Alan November will speak to the students during the day on October 22nd, and The Harvey School faculty during the afternoon. The parent portion of the program will be held at 7pm in the evening, in the Study Hall. This portion of the program will educate parents on the role technology plays in the lives of middle and upper school students. Parents will learn exciting and innovative new trends in information and communication technology and develop an understanding of these discoveries so that they may better understand how to support their children’s use of the Internet. Alan November will address specific issues of current concern including the use of Facebook and My Space and will help parents formulate appropriate boundaries for accessing and utilizing these sites. Ultimately, the goal will be to help us to become savvy, astute parents of technologically bright children. The evening program is open to the community at large, so bring a friend!

On Monday, September 24th, the Boys Varsity Soccer team earned its first victory of the season by defeating Marvelwood 4-3. Harvey came out flat, and allowed Marvelwood to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The second half opened with Harvey pressing, and although several chances just missed, the boys never looked back. Jason O’Brien scored on a penalty kick, and barely 3 minutes later, Alain Rwabakumba beat the Marvelwood keeper to tie the game. Miles Johnson gave Harvey the lead after he scored on a solo run from midfield and put a low shot into the net. Alain Rwabakumba scored less than 5 minutes later to preserve the win for Harvey. Tom Pennisi and Ben Boyd anchored the defense to preserve the win.
The girls opened their season with sizzling passing and scorching shots against Oakwood. In the first half, the Lady Cavs scored 5 times, each tally by a different player. Forwards Molly Hord, Carly Glenn, Nicolette St. Lawrence, and Dana Lombardi each scored as did all-star halfback Madison Haller. In the second half, Clara Lefton, playing out of position, scored her first career goal with 30 minutes to play. Assists were credited to Susannah Berry (2), Madison Haller (1), and Molly Hord (1). Goalie chores were shared by senior Clara Lefton, sophomore Emmy Kaufman, and 9th grader Carly Glenn.
The Harvey School’s ability to find the right students who will best adapt to its philosophy and its faculty’s ability to interact well with both day and boarding students was prominently highlighted in a recent edition of Westchester Magazine.
