On October 31, the girls continued their undefeated streak by edging a pesky Masters (NY) team 2-1. Despite having several excellent scoring chances in the first half, the Cavaliers were unable to put one into the net so the half-time score was 0-0.

In the second half, Masters’ took the lead, but the girls did not give up. With 25 minutes to play a crossing pass from Dana Lombardi found a wide-open Nicloette St. Lawrence, who sprinted toward the goal and calmly chipped in the tying goal over the outstretched arms of the opposition keeper. With 8 minutes to play, HVAL all-star Madison Haller sent a low ball through the Master’s defense onto Nicolette’s foot. Another sprint, another high shot, another goal, and Harvey was ahead to stay. Standouts on defense were Lauren Judisky, Elizabeth Morrell, and Erika Osborne. Clara Lefton picked up 11 saves.

On Wednesday, October 31, the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead at home against league rivals Oakwood Friends on Halloween. Their success might have scared the Cavs, because they lost the 3rd and 4th games and dropped a close overtime game to lose the match 3-2. During this game, Allison Zakre led the girls with hard work and aggressive digs, Brittany Fleiss and Stephanie Rodrigues settled the ball down nicely, and Chrissy Casbarro and Julie Sauro set up some nice spikes. Junior Alisa Langer was in the zone, capitalizing on some really nice passes by spiking the ball to earn some points.

The Irish of Sacred Heart, having played last week, in front of the white-hot cameras of Fox News, had momentum on their side. Coming on a short ride from Yonkers, with grim intentions in their heart, the hungry Irish were not to be taken lightly.

The upstarts from down county exerted their will early with a dominant, 8-play opening drive putting 8 points in the visitor column. The gauntlet had been thrown and the battle-horn sounded clearly in the cool autumn air. (more…)
