At home on Tuesday, December 11, Harvey Hockey defeated Somers 4 - 3. The two teams were playing for local bragging rights, and the efforts on the ice made for a fast-paced, back-and-forth game. Ultimately, Somers out shot Harvey, peppering goalie Jason O’Brien with 40 shots, and many of them were from the prime shooting area. While O’Brien let in one breakaway, he turned aside a number of odd-man rushes at critical moments of the game. O’Brien was focused, handling the puck well and settling down the Cavaliers.

An Asian textbook publisher has recognized instructor Tim Cornell for establishing The Harvey School’s successful Japanese program.
Mr. Cornell received the award from the Boston-based publisher Cheng & Tsui during The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Convention and World Languages Expo, which was held Nov. 16-18 in San Antonio, TX.
The conference brings together more than 5,000 teachers, administrators, method instructors, and students of foreign language, and features over 600 educational sessions on various topics, including assessment, culture, curriculum, literature, and technology. (more…)

On Friday afternoon, in front of a packed house at the Evarts Rink the Harvey Cavaliers took on local rival John Jay. The Cavaliers may have been a little over-amped as they took 7 penalties in the first period leading to three power play tallies, and trailed 3-0 at the end of the first period. In the second period Harvey found their game, began to move the puck and created offense, however the Cavs were left vulnerable in their own end too. The teams each scored 4 goals and Jay lead 7-4 at the end of two periods. Despite their efforts in the third period the varsity was unable to close the gap and fell 8-5. Harvey was lead by Sean O’Brien who had a hat trick and an assist. Justin Edelstein added two goals and an assist. Jason O’Brien stopped 47 of 55 shots that faced, as Harvey fell to 1-1 overall.
The Harvey Hockey Team opened their 2007-2008 season with a 3-1 victory over Byram Hills High School Wednesday November 28th. The Cavaliers were lead by senior captain Justin Edelstein, who scored both the game winning goal and an insurance power-play goal late in the third period. Tom Pennisi opened the scoring with late first period goal to give the Cavaliers a 1-0 lead. Goaltender Jason O’Brien stopped 37 of 38 shots for his first win of the season.
