Early Music Ensemble Spring Concert

The Harvey School Early Music Ensemble will present their spring concert on Sunday, May 18th, at 4:00 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre in the Arts Center. The ensemble will perform music from five centuries beginning with Gregorian Chant and closing with the United States premiere of the original version of Scott Joplin’s “Ragtime Dance”. Other featured selections will be three scenes from “The Beggar’s Opera” [a Baroque period musical comedy], early colonial American songs and dances, and music from the time of the American Civil War.

The 36 member ensemble includes singers, instrumentalists and dancers from both the upper and middle schools. Susan Daily is director of the ensemble and Melanie Gambino is the ensemble’s historical dance choreographer.

On April 22 The Harvey school tennis team traveled to the Wooster School to take on the always tough Wooster team. Ben Shapiro and Robbie Reeder started things off with convincing 10-1 and 10-2 victories. After a tough losses at #3, 5 and 6 singles it was up to Justin Bernstein to keep us in the match. After a tense back and forth match, Justin through grit and determination pulled off an 11-9 victory. Needing two victories in doubles, our #1 and #2 doubles teams consisting of Ben Shapiro, Carlo Civita, Robbie Reeder, and Matt Bernhard pulled off solid victories to send us to a 5-4 victory. Boy’s Lacrosse - Harvey 8 Masters 3

On April 21, the Cavaliers traveled to the Masters school in NY and beat them 8-3, bringing home their fourth win in a row and rising to 5-2 on the season.  Missing two seniors didn’t phase the Cavaliers as they faced off against a tireless Masters squad.  Things were dicey in the first quarter as Master’s pulled ahead 3-2, however, it was the only lead they would have all game.  During the rest of the game strong defense by Spencer Wiesner, Greg Hennings, and Jake Warshaw was able to shut down the Masters’ offensive line.  Offensive support for the Cavaliers came from multiple sources as Harvey had six players adding goals and assists.  Leading scorers for the game include Justin Edelstein (2 goals, 2 assists), Pete Sorenson (2 goals, 1 assist), Devin McCrossan (1 goal, 1 assist), Sean O’Brien (1 goal, 1 assist), and Eli Campbell (2 goals)

Girl’s Lacrosse - Harve 2 Forman 12

On April 24, the Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team traveled to the Forman School and lost 12-2.  Dana Lombardi got a goal and an assist from Julie Sauro.  Also, Carey Seefeld got an assist by Dana Lombardi. Harvey’s goalie Caitlin Costa had a total of 11 saves.  The score at halftime was 8-1

Boy’s Lacrosse: Harvey 12 Forman 11

On April 19, the Cavaliers beat a tough Forman squad at home 12-11 and rose to 4-2 on the season. In their most exciting game this season, Harvey played former HVAL champions Forman at home and struggled to keep them in check during the first half. At halftime the score was 9-5 Forman. Harvey rallied in the second half, with key offensive performances by freshman Eli Campbell, junior Pete Sorenson, senior Joe Lombardi, senior Justin Edelstein and senior Eric Gins. Credit goes out to the Cavalier defensemen as well as sophomore keeper Griffin Murray who had an incredible game with 39 saves. Leading scorers include Pete Sorenson (4 goals)

Harvey Tennis Undefeated in HVAL

Harvey traveled to South Salem on Friday for a match with South Kent and came away with a convincing 6-3 victory. Once again Harvey was lead by Ben Shapiro who won 10-0. Robbie Reeder followed up with a 10-5 victory at #2 singles. Carlo Civita was strong at #4 singles winning 10-2, and co-captain Gretal Coleman pulled out a 10-7 victory at #7 singles. Harvey also won #1 and #2 doubles 8-7 and 8-3 respectively. Although losing very close matches, Matt Bernhard, Josh Suna, Lauren Shevit and Rachel Costa all put up valiant efforts. Baseball: Harvey 13 Wooster 12

The Harvey School defeated Wooster in Danbury 13-12 in eight innings. Tre Wilson was the winning pitcher. Miles Johnson was 5 for 6 with 4 RBI’s. Tommy Pennisi was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. Porter Williams was also 3 for 4 with a double.
