Harvey Tennis Undefeated in HVAL

Harvey traveled to South Salem on Friday for a match with South Kent and came away with a convincing 6-3 victory. Once again Harvey was lead by Ben Shapiro who won 10-0. Robbie Reeder followed up with a 10-5 victory at #2 singles. Carlo Civita was strong at #4 singles winning 10-2, and co-captain Gretal Coleman pulled out a 10-7 victory at #7 singles. Harvey also won #1 and #2 doubles 8-7 and 8-3 respectively. Although losing very close matches, Matt Bernhard, Josh Suna, Lauren Shevit and Rachel Costa all put up valiant efforts. Harvey improved to 3-0 in the league and 3-2 overall. (more…)

Baseball: Harvey 13 Wooster 12

The Harvey School defeated Wooster in Danbury 13-12 in eight innings. Tre Wilson was the winning pitcher. Miles Johnson was 5 for 6 with 4 RBI’s. Tommy Pennisi was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles. Porter Williams was also 3 for 4 with a double.

Music Man in the Black Box Theatre

On May 15, The Harvey Middle School will stage “The Music Man,” one of Broadway’s best-loved musicals.

The hour long show will be performed by approximately 24 students at the school. Director and set designer Victor Whitehurst and musical director Kathy Cushman are coordinating the show, using a musical theater package known as The Broadway Junior Collection® from Music Theater International, a theater licensing company that helps schools adapt musicals specifically for young performers.

The collection contains a how-to guide for producing a Broadway show and also provides a condensed, author-approved version of the classic musical, in addition to an orchestral performance. Ms. Cushman said the components of the original musical are being preserved, yet the arrangements are transposed into keys appropriate for young voices, and that’s what makes the whole process so enjoyable, she said. Website just keeps getting better

Many parents have asked, “what’s served for lunch?” and “what are you eating for dinner when you stay late?.” Well, Harvey has responded to parents requests and implemented a wonderful New Feature on the the school’s website. Under Parents, scroll down to Menu and you can see or print out the school’s weekly menu. Each week a new menu is posted.

Boy’s Lacrosse: Harvey 8 Chase Collegiate 11

In their third game of the season the 1-1 Cavaliers dropped to Chase by a score of 11-8, falling to 1-2 on the season. Harvey was neck and neck with Chase during the first half, led by the offensive prowess of the starting attack: Pete Sorenson, Justin Edelstein and Eric Gins. Strong defensive performances by Jake Warshaw, Spencer Wiesner, and Greg Hennings kept the game tight at 3-3 moving into the second half. During the second half Chase pulled away despite an intense effort by Griffin Murray (31 saves) in goal. Harvey played some of their best lacrosse all season during the last two minutes earning a goal by Sam Lavin, assisted by Jamie Lunt, and a goal by Eric Gins. This strong offensive effort was shy of catching up to Chase’s lead. Leading offensive performers include Eric Gins (3 goals, 1 assist), Justin Edelstein (1 goal, 2 assists) and Pete Sorenson (2 goals).
