Girl’s Soccer Undefeated and HVAL Champs
The Harvey School’s Lady Cavaliers captured their second HVAL title in two years by handily beating the Poughkeepsie Day School in the final game of the league November 7.
The varsity soccer team remained undefeated throughout the 12 week-season, ending with 10 wins and two ties, some of which were played against old rivals Marvelwood (8-0), Oakwood Friends (6-0) and Wooster (5-0).
Leading scorers include Nicolette St. Lawrence, with 19 goals and six assists; HVAL All-Star player and midfielder Madison Haller, scoring 11 goals and eight assists; and Dana Lombardi, with six goals and four assists. Goalie Clara Lefton saved 1.2 goals against the average. Erika Osborne and Nicolette were both named Western New England All-Stars.
Other players contributing to the success of the team included Susannah Berry, Carly Glenn, Alison Hodson, Molly Hord, Abby Hunt, Yulia Josinger, Kayla Mogrovejo, Elizabeth Morrell, Lauren Penny, Amanda Rubiano, Jennifer Salice, and Brooke Stager.
“In my 31 years of coaching, this is the first undefeated season we’ve had in girls varsity soccer,” said Athletic Director Tim Stark. “It’s definitely something to be proud of.”
Convinced that luck is on their side, the team is currently vying for the New England Preparatory School Championship. It is currently one of eight teams in Class D of that tournament. The last time a Harvey team took a NPEC title was in 1987 (boys lacrosse) and 1995 (boys basketball).
“We’re up against some pretty stiff competition,” said Stark, “but knowing the team like I do, they’ll give it their all.”
