At home on Tuesday, December 11, Harvey Hockey defeated Somers 4 - 3. The two teams were playing for local bragging rights, and the efforts on the ice made for a fast-paced, back-and-forth game. Ultimately, Somers out shot Harvey, peppering goalie Jason O’Brien with 40 shots, and many of them were from the prime shooting area. While O’Brien let in one breakaway, he turned aside a number of odd-man rushes at critical moments of the game. O’Brien was focused, handling the puck well and settling down the Cavaliers.

Harvey’s offensive efforts were led by Justin Edelstein who finished the game with two goals and two assists. Ricky Schulman enjoyed an Edelstein feed to connect for his first varsity goal, and Edelstein’s assist on the fourth and game-winning goal was the result of a “thread the needle” pass on a two-on-one with Porter Williams. Williams buried Edelstein’s pass and was excited to be re-united on a line with Edelstein and Schulman.

Joe Gattuso anchored Harvey’s second line, providing much needed maturity and composure. When the team needed it most, late in the third period, Gattuso was able to settle down the puck and find either S. O’Brien, Brad Totonis, or Devin McCrossan for a break out. S. O’Brien who has been hot of late, worked very hard but did not seem to get the bounces that he has been getting.
