In their season opener the Cavaliers won a close one (7-6) against Hoosac at home. During the first half, scoring was kept to a minimum as Harvey’s offense experienced difficulty against an aggressive Hoosac defense, while their own defense held strong keeping the score at halftime to one goal for Harvey, two for Hoosac. During the second half the Cavaliers caught fire with scoring from Sam Lavin, Nick Durst, and Pete Sorenson. With less than two minutes left in the game, Harvey had a two goal lead. Hoosac responded by putting extra pressure on the ball and caught up with less than a minute to go. Harvey’s Ricky Schulman scored the go ahead goal with two seconds in the game. Harvey owes its win to a stellar performance from sophomore goalie Griffin Murray. Leading offensive performers include Peter Sorenson (2 goals, 2 assists) and Eric Gins (1 goal, 1 assist).

Coaches Maggie Hooton, Amie Phillips, Angelika Rinnehofer
Softball is all set for another successful season. While we suffered a significant blow with the loss of two seniors at the end of last season, we are thrilled to find the addition of no less than nine talented freshmen on our roster for this year! Kayla Mogrovejo, Carly Glenn, Sarah Hodson, Molly Hord, Alexa Marconi, Sarah Dowdell, Julia Parker, Victoria Shaffer and Rachel Dimowitz are more than “field ready” and raring to go. We have enough for a freshman team in practice and they are already holding their own against “the others”. We are also thrilled to have many current seniors bringing their experience to the team: Ali Walkup, Lauren Judisky, Clara Lefton, Brittany Fleiss, Leydi Lundeen-Goldschlag, Miranda Larsen and Rachel Camoia will return, along with sophomore Emmy Kaufman as lead pitcher and junior Erika Osborne as our outstanding catcher. Juniors Lauren Aiello, Laura Glass-Johnston, Noelle McKoy, Kate Urbach and Alisa Langer round out our experienced players while Rachel Chimblo, Carolynn Iskyan, Abby Hunt and Chrissy Casbarro are new additions. I am also delighted to share coaching duties again with Coach Phillips and new to softball Coach Rinnhofer who will be bringing along her camera to capture the highlights of the season. Obviously, with this roster, we are expecting an enjoyable and successful season led by our captains, elected by their teammates: Lauren Judisky, Ali Walkup and Erika Osborne. (more…)
