Boy’s Basketball Participates in Kildonan Classic

The Cavaliers won three games out of four in the coveted Kildonan Classic, which was held at The Kildonan School in Amenia, N.Y., last weekend. On Feb. 15, they beat Hoosac in the opening game, winning 52-51 and rising to 7-9 on the season. On Feb. 16, the Harvey boys faced off against Harmony Christian in their first game on day two of the Classic, winning 70-67 and rising to 9-9 on the season. The Cavaliers later played MacDuffie for their second game in the Classic, winning 49-47, and rising to 8-9 on the season. In the championship game, the Cavaliers faced MacDuffie again, but lost this one 47-39, falling to 9-10 on the season. Strong defensive performances by Jon Jackson, Joe Lombardi and Wolfie Lovell helped the Cavs succeed. Leading scorers were: Matt Bowser, Andrew Hernandez, Jackson, Lovell, Phil Porter, Connor Welles, and Tre’ Wilson. The Kildonan Classic is an annual event involving six varsity basketball teams from area private schools who come together to compete and have fun.

Boy’s Varsity Basketball - Harvey 46 Watkinson 77

On February 11, the Cavaliers traveled to Watkinson, losing 77-46 and falling to 6-9 on the season. The Cavaliers took a small lead early into the first half, but then the Rams heated up and outscored a struggling Cavalier squad 44-27 in the first half. As usual, the Cavaliers were able to spread out their offensive points, with nine out of twelve players contributing offensively. During the second half the Rams put the pressure on Harvey and despite strong defensive performances from Miles Johnson, Alain Rwabukamba, and Wolfie Lovell the game fell out of reach. Leading scorers include Tre’ Wilson (11), Jon Jackson (9) and Philip Porter (8).

Girl’s Varsity Basketball - Harvey 37 Watkinson 56

On February 11, Watkinson School visited Harvey for a girls’ varsity basketball game. The visitors led by 25-18 at the half, and won the game by a score of 56-37. Julie Sauro had 16 points for Harvey, and Dana Lombardi had 3 three point field goals on her way to 11 points. Carly Glenn of Katonah also had a strong game with 8 points, and Joanna Smith had 2. Not scoring were Clara Lefton, Gabby Bertone, Hannah Sawyer, Allison Hodson, and Alex Minicucci.

Harvey set the tone for the afternoon on the first shift. Hitting the ice with a purpose and knowing that the team needed something to cheer for and build on, Justin Edelstein scored a goal assisted by Sean O’Brien only 33 seconds into the game. Though Alex Klein of the Wildcats answered back less than two minutes later, both teams knew that they were in for a battle. The game remained tied at 1-1 for the remainder of the first stanza, but the entire Harvey team was feeding off of the energy. (more…)

Girl’s Varsity Basketball - Harvey 44 Oakwood Friends 34

On February 6, the Varsity Girls’ basketball team played a home game against the Oakwood Friends School, and won by a score of 44-34. Noelle McKoy had 7 field goals and was 7 for 9 on free throws for 21 points. Dana Lombardi had 7 points, Hannah Sawyer and Julie Sauro 4 each, while Lydia Williams, Joanna Smith, Clara Lefton, and Kayla Mogrovejo each had 2. Allison Hodson, Alex Minicucci, Rachel Mendelsohn, Carly Glenn, and Gabby Bertone also contributed to the victory. Harvey now has won 5 of 7 league games.
