blog_image.jpgThe Harvey School’s ability to find the right students who will best adapt to its philosophy and its faculty’s ability to interact well with both day and boarding students was prominently highlighted in a recent edition of Westchester Magazine.

The article, titled “Finding the Right Private School for Your Child in and Around Westchester,” talked specifically about the school’s small classes and the attention that students regularly receive from its teachers.

Meal times at Harvey, which are designed for boarders but are available to all, was cited as the perfect opportunity for such interaction.

“Our teachers take time to work with students individually, which would never work with a class size of 25,” Director of Admission Ron Romanowicz, was quoted as saying. “Most important, we have an understanding of how our students learn so we can develop effective teaching strategies to help them be successful.”

The article also included the comments of Harvey parent Susan Salice, whose two daughters, Regina, 15, and Sarah, 18, attend the school. Despite the differences in their personalities and interests — Sarah’s creative and artistic, Regina’s athletic — they both found a happy home in Harvey, said their mother.

“I went to the open house of almost every private school in the area,” Mrs. Salice was quoted as saying. “When we got to Harvey, we stopped looking—both girls felt comfortable and felt they would fit in.” The decision, she said, “has really paid off.”

Harvey’s ability to embrace each and every student was also commended by Mrs. Salice, who said the school welcomed her daughters with open arms, based upon who they are, their capabilities, and their potential.

It also proved to be a smooth transition from Windward, where Regina studied before, and was a natural bridge to college for Sarah. “I think it’s phenomenal that after knowing Sarah for only two years, they were able to identify a college that’s such a good fit for her,” she said. Sarah will be attending Wheaton College, which “wasn’t even on our radar,” said Mrs. Salice. “It’s an outstanding school and she fell in love with it.”
