Angelika Rinnhofer, a fine arts teacher at The Harvey School in Katonah, will release her first book titled “Sammelsurium,” in November. A book signing is being hosted by Harvey and the Katonah Museum of Art on the evening of December 19.

The book is being released as an accompanying monograph to an exhibition, also called “Sammelsurium,” at the Syracuse-based Light Work gallery (www.lightwork.org), which will take place Nov. 5 through Dec. 28.

Light Work is also the publisher of Ms. Rinnhofer’s book. It is a non-profit, artist-run organization dedicated to the support of artists who work in photography and electronic media.

Both the book and the exhibition include Ms. Rinnhofer’s large-format color prints from three related series, including Menschenkunde, Felsenfest, and Seelensucht.

The German-born commercial photographer and artist creates portraits that combine facts, beauty and irony in a Renaissance-style. She is also known for representing martyrs and saints in a modern context, and uses her critical skills to juxtapose religious figures with modern-looking scientists.

She is the recipient of a Kodak European Gold Award, and received a fellowship in photography from the Dutchess County Arts Council. She participated in Light Work’s Artist-in-Residence program in 2005. Her work can be seen at www.angelikarinnhofer.com.

Light Work will host a gallery reception on November 8, from 5-8pm, in advance of the exhibition, which can be viewed Sunday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., and by appointment.
